Welcome Fellow Breeders and Friends,
On behalf of our crew at Journagan Ranch of Missouri State University, we would like to invite you to be
with us on October 3, 2026. As we prepare for our 35th sale and celebrate 46 years in the Hereford busi-
ness, we want to say a “THANK YOU” for the support of our customers and friends.
Our goal has always been to provide the Best Hereford Genetics to the Beef Cattle Industry. We use all the
available tools to provide documentation to enhance our genetics to be more predictable and profitable. Our
cow herd is very maternal. They have been raised and bred on fescue for generations and are very adapted
to our environment. We focus on the relevant economic traits like foot, structure, udder, teat, fleshing ability
and most importantly Fertility. We incorporate Longevity in this equation, which we think is the true profit
driver. We feel carcass is a trait that the whole Beef business should be concerned about. We have been
gathering carcass data for 25 years. We take that data and balance it with all the other traits to influence our
genetics. Most importantly we listen to our customers’ needs and concerns and value their input.
We are excited about the Quality of cattle in this year’s offering. We look forward to your appraisal. We are
sharing with you some of our very best.
I would like to recognize Jim and Linda Reed. They have been very instrumental in the management of all
35 of our sales, since 1985. That’s an awesome accomplishment that is probably unmatched in our Here-
ford world. I appreciate his leadership, mentorship, determination and professionalism. Thanks to Linda for
her support and talent with the production of our catalog. I appreciate her ability to read my scribbled foot-
notes. Jim and Linda are truly one of the great couples in our Hereford business. I love you both very much!
I must Thank Don Birk for his 35 years of service to Journagan Ranch. I believe Don to be one
of the best photographers in the cattle business! It’s been quite an adventure with photo technol-
ogy through the years. I appreciate his mentorship, friendship and memories made in the photo
pen. Don has also provided ring service for all our 35 sales. Don is a true friend, love you DB!
I would like to Thank our Ranch crew; Russell Driskell, Eric Lueck, Eddie Massey and Chantz Reece for
their hard work and dedication. I would also like to Thank the Howard brothers, Steve and Justin. Their
willingness to be a part of the Sale preparation is very much appreciated. We would like to introduce Wes
Housley. He is our new assistant manager. Thank you, Garett Kirk and the many students that we have had
the opportunity to work with. Big ` THANKS to all of you!
Please note the 15th annual Journagan Ranch futurity will start at 6:00 pm on Friday evening. Please con-
tact Garrett Kirk if you plan on participating in Futurity, 417 848 9094. We will have hamburgers and all the
